Ghana Poll: Mahama’s Victory Shows APC’s Time is Limited, Says PDP
John Mahama, who leads the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won the presidential election on Saturday. He defeated Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which is Ghana’s ruling party.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) praised John Mahama’s win in Ghana. They said it shows that the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Nigeria is struggling. The PDP believes the APC’s days are numbered.
The PDP’s spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, commented on the election results in Ghana. He said this defeat reflects the people’s wishes. He believes it signals that people power will also prevail in Nigeria. Like in Ghana, he hopes it will end the APC’s rule and bring back good government, security, and economic prosperity with the PDP. The PDP looks forward to this change in 2027.
The PDP accused the APC of misrule. They claimed the APC’s policies have harmed the country. They mentioned issues like terrorism, with the killing of over 65,000 Nigerians and how these policies have hurt the creativity of the youth.
The PDP said it is more distressing because Nigerians suffer from severe hardship. Yet, the APC leaders seem unconcerned and unaccountable. They impose harsh taxes while looting the nation’s funds for their luxury. The PDP said these leaders treat Nigerians as though they are conquered.
The PDP called on agencies like the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies. They urged them to listen to Nigerians. The PDP wants to ensure the people’s will prevails in the elections.
Despite the APC’s poor leadership, the PDP encourages Nigerians to stay strong. They want them to end the APC’s rule and re-establish good governance with the PDP by 2027.
The PDP is one of the biggest parties in Nigeria. It led the country from 1999 to 2015 before the APC took power. In the 2023 election, the APC retained control for another four years.
