And then mid-session, the most Nigerian thing happened:

Soon after Dino’s session, Senate President Bukola Saraki was absolved of any role in the N300 million Senate vehicle scandal

A car dealer, Lanre Shittu, did absolve Senate President Bukola Saraki of being culpable in respect of the nearly N300 million bullet proof Range Rover imported with fake documents and seized by the Nigerian Customs Service.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki said it is important that he clears his name, as in the documents presented, none of the docs bear his name. The importer of the vehicle, Tokunbo Akindele and the Car Dealer, Lanre Shittu both testified under oath shortly afterwards.

Mr Akindele said that in 2015, they imported the bullet proof SUV for his company’s use, but later changed their minds, as they got an alternative. “We received the car in 2015, the car was not imported for Senator Bukola Saraki,” Mr. Akindele said.

The agent, Mr Akindele said their company only found out that the clearing documents given to them by the Nigerian Customs Service were fake in 2017.

Car Dealer, Lanre Shittu in his testimony said, “The SUV was consigned to Lanre Shittu in October, 2016. Mr Wale Tinubu approached me on how they can sell the Vehicle. We facilitated the sales of the Vehicle to the National Assembly. We never sold any vehicle to Senate President, Bukola Saraki”

“We requested for SUV docs from Mr Wale Tinubu of Oando, and we discovered they had fake documents from Nigerian Customs Service,” Mr Lanre Shittu declared.

The Committee then adjourned further hearing on the matter to Tuesday, 28th March to allow the Nigerian Customs Service state it’s role in the SUV documentation.
